Our Work

The Bay Area and North and Central Coast AIDS Education and Training Center offers:

  • Free trainings to providers serving people with HIV/AIDS and/or HCV. Trainings are offered in the community and a limited number are also conducted on site upon request. Some training events offer health care professionals continuing education or medical education units (CEUs/CMEs).
  • Technical assistance (TA) regarding how to improve or strengthen HIV/AIDS health care systems, policies, and procedures (e.g. protocol development, instituting routine HIV/HCV testing, strategies for retention). To request more information on TA, contact amanda.newstetter@ucsf.edu
  • Clinical Preceptorships and mini-residencies are for health care providers who would like to develop and strengthen their ability to provide primary care for people living with HIV/AIDS and HCV. Spots are limited based on faculty availability and scheduling. Preceptorships typically are 1-2 full-days. Mini-residencies in the East Bay are a minimum of 10 half day sessions with faculty at the clinical site seeing patients combined with learning modules on:
    • HIV epidemiology
    • Diagnosis
    • Lab monitoring
    • Antiretroviral medication regimens
    • Drug toxicities and interactions
    • Common comorbidities

If you are interested in a Preceptorship or Mini-Residency in San Francisco or the East Bay, please complete this application form (545 KB MS Word document), and send to amanda.newstetter@ucsf.edu.
